What is the $DIMO token?
$DIMO is the coordination token for the DIMO protocol. It aligns the interests of drivers, developers, fleet operators, and the businesses that build on the network.
Key Functions
Access: Businesses and applications that use DIMO to connect to vehicles pay protocol fees in $DIMO. This is how the network sustains itself, similar to how transaction fees work on any open protocol. DIP-3: Vehicle Data Access Fees.
Governance: Token holders vote on protocol decisions including software upgrades, fee structures, data policies, and how network rewards are distributed. The people who use and build on DIMO have a say in how it evolves. Governance
Network Growth: Participants who expand the network can earn $DIMO. This is what bootstrapped 200,000+ connected vehicles before any enterprise contracts existed.
Community: Token ownership signals participation in the ecosystem and may grant access to features, programs, and events as the network grows.
Why a token?
DIMO is an open protocol, not a closed platform. No single company controls access to the vehicle network. The token is what makes that possible: it lets a diverse set of drivers, developers, and operators coordinate without needing to trust one central party.
That's also what makes enterprises comfortable building on DIMO. They're integrating with an open standard, not getting locked into a vendor. The protocol's rules are transparent, programmable, and governed by the people who actually use it.
DIMO is built by a decentralized network of contributors and this section illustrates a compelling and plausible vision for what such contributors may build. Ultimately, what various groups and individuals contribute is their decision and may include the things listed here, things not listed here, or nothing at all. This section does not make any commitments about what may be built and the future of DIMO may differ.
DIMO reserves the right to withhold tokens from users whose wallet addresses are flagged for compliance issues, including but not limited to anti-money laundering, or sanctions laws, and other applicable laws. Nothing in these documents represents a promise or guarantee of any future actions and the DIMO Foundation is not bound to distribute DIMO tokens to any user.
