batteryCapacity

Amount of energy (in kilowatt-hours) that the vehicle's battery can hold when `soc` is 1 (i.e. the battery is full).

High-Level Explanation

The total kilowatt-hours that the battery can hold when fully charged.

Enables

Converting soc into kilowatt-hours. This enables finding the total amount of energy charged into vehicles during charging and the total amount of energy used by vehicles during driving actions. This can allow the comparison of the amount of energy used for driving under similar conditions by two distinct vehicles to compare the energy efficiency.

Known Quirks

  • This signal is frequently null, though it takes only one non-null value per vehicle's data, as it should be unchanging. For a set of 1143 Tesla vehicles, 247 have at least one non-null value for batteryCapacity. For a sample vehicle, 5 out of 179178 records have a non-null batteryCapacity.

  • Battery capacity is not necessarily a single and trivial number. A battery can have a usable capacity and a full capacity. For example, a battery may be able to hold 65 kilowatt-hours but the vehicle's software will only allow the battery to discharge at most 62 kilowatt-hours.
